Artist Statement
Art is my voice, meditation, and the lens through which I see the world.
I am an interdisciplinary artist born and raised in Yogyakarta, Java, Indonesia, where
spirituality, culture, and philosophy coexist in every breath. I found my path not in loud
proclamations but in quiet, symbolic expressions. I carry with me the traditions of my ancestors,
Javanese philosophy and a deep connection to the balance of light and dark within the human
soul.
The concept of my artworks is the desire to visually convey the beauty of balance within oneself (microcosmos) and bring it out of oneself so that it can merge with the universe (macro cosmos). My works weave these threads of spirituality and social commentary into a visual narrative that speaks to the complexity of human nature and my passion for peace. When my aesthetic odyssey can transcend the boundaries of the past, present, and future. I explore the human experience and the juxtaposition between figurative and abstract compositions to create unique visual narratives.
My inspiration comes from everything around me: the news, human relationships, social
injustices, and humanity's ongoing evolution. I examine the role of women, cultural symbolism,
life, and the unspoken narratives of our shared experiences. These concepts are not fixed ideas
but instead evolving questions that I continually pursue in my work as I seek to find a balance in
life.
Art is a platform for expressing my thoughts on people, society, and its systems. I employ
diverse materials, mediums, and approaches and often learn new skills to convey the messages
and ideas in my artworks. Through drawing, painting, sculpting, or installation, I aspire to create
art and spaces that inspire contemplation, inviting viewers to the journey into their thoughts and
emotions. Art, for me, is a transformative meditation—a way to understand myself and others, a
means to connect on a spiritual and intellectual level. I hope my artwork can inspire people to
pause, see the world differently, and find the deeper connections that unite us all.
